THE HISTORY OF THE CUSHION BEGAN 7000 YEARS BEFORE JESUS CHRIST IN ANCIENT MESOPOTAMIA. THESE FIRST CUSHIONS WERE CARVED IN STONE. THEIR FUNCTION WAS INITIALLY NOT DECORATIVE, BUT TO PREVENT INSECTS FROM CRAWLING UP TO THE FACE. AS STONE WAS EXPENSIVE, THEY WERE ONLY USED BY WEALTHY CITIZENS.
