PAINTINGS

"IN MY OPINION, ART IS A PRIVILEGED WITNESS TO THE PASSING OF TIME, SEARCHING BEHIND INTRIGUING WASTELANDS, THE SIGHS AND ABANDONED TREASURES HAS IMPOSED ITSELF ON ME. A COMBINATION OF DREAMS THAT DRAWING HELPS ME TO REPRESENT. MOSTLY LOOKS. ANIMAL LOOKS, A LOT OF THEM, WHICH I USE AS AN ALLEGORY TO EVOKE FEELINGS.

MY NAME IS ALAN LOUIS."

NATURE

It all began on those summer afternoons. The countryside offered itself to the child that I was. I saw through the wheat fields, so much poetry. Fuelled by travel and atmosphere, nature is at the heart of my work, reflecting my innocence at the time, it’s constantly reborn, without limit. After a winter it has grown up but its youth remains unchanged. It's an incredible cycle. It's also populated by people who don't speak but just stare at you. The bee is everywhere. She connects my thoughts and chases away the silence with her stories. A manifesto of life, I imagine her, as the guardian of the world.

A LITTLE CLOSER TO REAL

I like the idea that what I draw is alive. Frozen but with a soul that pierces. I frame them with the greatest care to obtain the quality and result I want. Museum paper (acid-free), quality pigment pencils, museum glass (anti-reflective and anti-UV), antique frames. These are all tools that have proved their worth over time and around the world.

FRAGMENTS OF GOLD

For me, a deconstructed work is an invitation to reconnect with the imperfect. To see fractures as strengths. Accepting that not everything is straight and in the right boxes. Integrating the unexpected as an ingredient of value.

Frames worn down by the passage of time that have flourished between castles and hovels, faded in cellars and attics, piled against walls, choked with dust. Delightful souls who once danced discreetly on the walls, whispering to each other the confidences of a life whispered to them. Falling into their ears and eyes, snatches of a bygone time that they will treasure forever. I think we can give them a few of our secrets today so that they can continue their lives tomorrow.

This unique framing also includes a made-to-measure passe-partout that matches and emphasises the meaning of each work. For this, I chose a bevel covered in gold parchment.
